When to visit the Seychelles Islands
Seychelles is regarded as an all year round destination for holidays, however clients should be aware of the general weather conditions at the time they propose to visit and our staff can provide you with expert guidance on this matter.
As a tropical island destination, hotels with air conditioning should be selected if humidity is a concern, especially if you are travelling with infants and young children.
From time to time, some of the beaches have a build up of seaweed on them due to certain weather conditions. We shall advise you to the best of our knowledge if your particular hotel choice has this occurence.
For sepcific interests, we advise as follows: - Sailing and Windsurfing in the Seychelles: Late May to October, generally force 3 to 6, steady winds, both night and day.
- Diving in the Seychelles: All year round, but optimum visibility between the months of March to May and late September to the end of December.
- Eco and Walking Tours: Ideally choose the time of lowest humidity and coling breezes - June to October, but any period of the year is possible.
- Bird Watching in the Seychelles: All year round for your indigenous species, June to October for the sea bird colonies.
Climate Being in the tropics, and surrounded by the vast Indian Ocean, the Seychelles climate is pleasantly warm and humid all year round. Annual sunshine and rainfall are high, evidenced by the lush green vegetation on the main granite based islands. The outer coralline islands have a lower annual rainfall.
As a guide: - May to October: Average temperature of 27 degC and 8 hours of sunshine per day. The South East trade winds waft a pleasant cooling breeze over the islands and at times the sea can be quite choppy on certain coastal areas, washing seaweed on to these beaches. It is the period of lowest rainfall and humidity and arguably the most comfortable.
- October to December: Generally this is a calm period between the two main weather systems, resulting in light spasmodic breezes, calm seas and higher humidity. Average temperatures of 32 degC and 7 hours sunshine per day can be expected.
- December to March: The period of the North West monsoon, bringing frquent tropical rain, high humidity, average temperatures of 32 degC and 6 hours of sunshine per day.
- March to May: Similar to the October to December period, generally calm seas, light breezes, 7 to 8 hours of sunshine per day, average humidity and rainfall.
